The 65th edition of the Hanover International Motor Show, the most important commercial and industrial vehicle show in Europe, is scheduled from 25th September to 2nd October. The event will bring professionals and major manufacturers in the sector to the German city. These will include Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with its Fiat Professional brand. This has always played a prominent role in the sale of light commercial vehicles on the German market as the leading import brand.
At Hanover, Fiat Professional is exhibiting 17 vehicles, with a specific focus on the new Ducato and the world premiere of the new Doblò. The German motor show is the perfect opportunity to discover all the new products of the brand, to mark the beginning of a complete renewal of the entire product range set to finish in 2016.
The star of the exhibition space is the new Doblò, which is the fourth generation of the vehicle that was conceived from the design stage as a commercial vehicle in every sense, not simply a small van but a genuine LCV that can be adapted to all working missions and different types of outfit.
The new model will be revealed in Hanover, in a world premiere, during the first day dedicated to the international press, when the first official photos will also be available on the website: www.fiatprofessionalpress.com.
The new Doblò offers a fully restyled interior and exterior design, the availability of 3 seats, a torque response improved by up to 40% and it confirms the best road-handling and driving comfort in its class thanks to bi-link suspension and segment-beating load capacity and volume. In addition, the range is further extended thanks to the new “EcoJet” version that combines low fuel consumption and reduced running costs. All this to offer its customers even more value.
Available for purchase from early 2015, the New Doblò range comprises four bodies depending on the market (Cargo, Combi, Truck and Flatbed), 2 height variants and 2 wheelbase lengths. A total of approximately 200 different chassis types and more than 1,000 possible versions and solutions ranging from vans to rapid fixed-route vehicles, versions converted for specific uses to special vehicles.
Six models of the New Doblò are on show at the Hanover Motor Show. Specifically, there are two Cargo versions (L1H1) equipped with 1.3 MultiJet II engines (75 HP and 90 HP, the latter in the EcoJet version): the former is fitted with a swivel partition, a seat that folds down to the floor and a rear roof flap while the latter features a multi-functional front bench seat, a Uconnect NAV 5″ touchscreen radio and powerfolding heated electric door mirrors. The booth also showcases a New Doblò Cargo Maxi (L2H1) with 100 HP 1.6 MultiJet II engine and equipped with 3 front seats, Uconnect 5″ touchscreen radio and interior and exterior load bars; a Work Up 135 HP 2.0 MultiJet II with 3 front seats, marine plywood load platform affording a surface area of 4.2 m2 and folding sideboards (version entirely designed, built and guaranteed by Fiat Professional); a Cargo XL (L2H2) fitted with a 90 HP 1.6 MultiJet II engine, robotised gearbox and specific “Mobile Workshop” outfit with modular shelving; and, last but not least, a Combi (L1H1) 120 HP 1.4 Natural Power (petrol/methane dual fuel) with Uconnect NAV 5″ radio, powerfolding heated electric door mirrors and new 16″ alloy wheel rims.
There is also room for the New Ducato, the latest evolution of the Fiat bestseller which offers a host of innovations in response to developing client needs, with more technology, increased efficiency and better value.
At the booth, the public will have the chance to admire six different models, including the world premiere of the Ducato 140 Natural Power – equipped with the 3-litre (Euro 6) 136 HP engine with 350 Nm torque powered by methane/petrol dual fuel – which will be available for purchase from early 2015 in the following versions: van, Combi, Panorama and Chassis Cab with load platform, in both the Ducato and Ducato Maxi ranges. The vehicle on display in Hanover is a glazed Maxi van version (3500 kg – L3H2) with the “Mobile Workshop” outfit by Sortimo.
Beside it, the New Ducato glazed van (3300 kg -L2H2) is fitted with the 130 HP 2.3 MultiJet II and features the “Sanitär” outfit by Würth to carry sanitary products and the New Ducato truck (4000 kg – L3) with three-sided flatbed tipper fitted with the 150 HP 2.3 MultiJet II engine. Designed and guaranteed by Fiat Professional, this latest version offers a load surface of 6.8 m2 which can be operated by a remote control situated aboard the driver’s cab. In addition, a generous storage compartment situated beneath the sturdy steel load platform allows you to tidy away small everyday items that need to be kept away from bad weather.
There is also room for the New Ducato crew cab van (3500 kg – L2H2) with the 130 HP 2.3 MultiJet II engine (which can comfortably accommodate up to 7 people and carry up to 8 m3 and 1.4 tons of goods in the rear load compartment, which is entirely isolated from the passenger area thanks to a robust partition) and the New Ducato Panorama FlexFloor with the 150 HP 2.3 MultiJet II engine and the Comfort-matic automated gearbox. Specifically, the FlexFloor versions of the Ducato have always provided maximum flexibility in terms of layout and the number of seats available in the people carrier versions. In this configuration, it can accommodate up to 9 passengers thanks to individual seats which can slide and swivel on aluminium runners. The FlexFloor versions of the New Ducato are especially recommended for disabled passenger transport thanks to ultra-safe anchoring devices for wheelchairs.
In addition to these five vehicles, there’s the special Ducato Yamaha showvan to seal the partnership which binds the two brands in the MotoGP 2014 World Championship. Based on a New Ducato (L2H2) with a 3-litre 180 HP MultiJet engine, this particular vehicle features exclusive hand-crafted interiors to emphasise its sports vocation: Sabelt customised seats, the steering wheel, roof and partition entirely upholstered with Alcantara combined with racing details to create an interior with a high emotional impact. The exterior body sports an unprecedented livery with a dynamic 3D effect which aims at emphasising further the partnership between the Fiat Professional Brand and the Yamaha Factory Racing team.
Lastly, the Ducato Yamaha showvan is fitted with the bike transport kit which Fiat Professional recently launched for the ‘workers’, but also for those who are simply passionate about motorcycling, who want to carry their racers in complete safety aboard the Doblò, Scudo and Ducato models.
All the models on display are just a small portion of the wide-ranging selection of Fiat Ducato vehicles: indeed, there are approximately 10,000 versions for transporting goods, people carriers and bases for conversions. In detail, within the van range, you can choose from between eight different capacities, ranging from 8 to 17 m³ and boasting the best efficiency in the category. What’s more, the New Ducato is available in 4 lengths and 3 heights for vans, and 6 lengths for chassis cabs and chassis cowls.
Fiat Professional have also set up an area outside the halls of the Hanover International Motor Show, where the public can see up close five vehicles outfitted by leading European outfitters. From mobile workshops to vehicles with flatbed, from postal and courier vehicles to those with refrigerated chamber, from motorhomes for recreation to vehicles for public services: there’s no professional activity or mobility requirement that can’t be met by converted Fiat Professional vehicles, as demonstrated also by the collaboration with the best outfitters in the sector of special equipment for assisted mobility.
Fiat Professional has decided to present these major new products through a display affording an all-round brand experience. With its absolutely innovative and entirely restyled appearance with respect to the past, the booth set up in Hanover follows a stylistic trait showcasing technology and design, which represent the distinguishing values of the brand and of its vehicles. Specifically, the characteristic stylistic cut of the headlight on the New Ducato – which is also present on the New Doblò – has become the core feature for the entire booth and the matrix for the new range.
Similarly, the exhibition space stands out thanks to its “Fiat Professional” logo which, from early 2015, will become the official signature on the bodies of all the brand’s commercial vehicles. The word “Professional” aims at bearing witness to the brand’s ability to speak “from one professional to another”: besides, for over a century, the brand has supported workers day-in day-out, actively participating in the economic and social growth of many Countries.
Lastly, the German Motor Show is also the perfect opportunity to discover the many exclusive services offered by Fiat Professional together with Mopar, the brand of reference for Services, Customer Care, Original Parts and Accessories for the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brands.
The New Doblò
The Hanover Motor Show is the venue for the début of the fourth generation of the New Doblò, the Fiat Professional vehicle which was designed to top its category for performance and functional qualities, load capacity and productivity, low fuel consumption and reduced running costs.
Marketed in more than 80 different countries world-wide, including North America where it is sold under the name Promaster City with the RAM brand, the New Doblò has become a ‘global’ vehicle – just like the New Ducato – and it will certainly contribute towards the growth of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the light commercial vehicles sector.
The heir of a winning model – over 1 million customers have chosen it between 2000 and today – the New Doblò aims at consolidating its leadership of this market segment, representing approximately 25% of the total European light commercial vehicles.
The model combines the fuel consumption and emission levels of a B-segment vehicle with the comfort of a mid-size saloon, the overall dimensions of a small van and the payload of a superior-segment van. Besides, this vehicle was conceived from the design stage as a commercial vehicle in every sense, not simply a small van but a genuine LCV that can be adapted to multiple working missions and different types of outfit.
Available for purchase from early 2015, the New Doblò offers the most extensive range in the segment, comprising four bodies (Cargo, Combi, Trucks and Flatbeds), two height variants and two length variants. A total of approximately 200 different chassis types and more than 1,000 possible versions and solutions ranging from vans to rapid fixed-route vehicles, versions converted for specific uses to special vehicles.
The new Fiat Professional commercial vehicle offers a fully restyled interior and exterior design. An unprecedented bonnet (which is now more tapered and in keeping with the curved roof) stands out from a more modern and distinctive front, as do the new bumpers and a larger front grille, the new rear light clusters which emphasise the horizontal flow of the silhouette.
On the inside, the New Doblò stands out for its completely restyled passenger compartment, including dashboard, upholstery, steering wheel, instrument panel graphics and door panels.
This new style offers ultimate functionality which, together with superior performance levels, are two core concepts which the designers focused on when devising the New Doblò. Specifically, the concept of functionality is demonstrated in the new multi-functional front bench seat that provides 3 front seats and conceals a practical and generous storage compartment beneath them. In addition, the middle seat can be folded down and used as an armrest or a practical document holder, while the passenger seat can also be folded down in order to carry long items and anchor them to practical retaining hooks in the back of the seat.
Other functional features include the electric folding door mirrors and the broad range of infotainment possibilities, with Bluetooth radios and USB/AUX sockets. There’s also the exclusive Uconnect system with 5″ colour touchscreen, integrated navigation system and digital radio playback (DAB).
The concept of functionality also applies to the load compartment, as demonstrated by its regular shape, ergonomic handles, as well as the practical 180° opening rear doors which grant easy and convenient access to the interior. Without forgetting that the vehicle is suitable for all sorts of use since it can carry a payload of up to 1 tonne and it boasts a volume in excess of 5 m3.
In terms of performance levels, the new commercial vehicle confirms the use of independent Bi-link rear suspension which delivers superior comfort and road-handling in all driving conditions, whatever the load. In addition, in keeping with Fiat Professional’s appreciated and exclusive “one mission – one engine” strategy, the engines on the New Doblò guarantee top performance depending on various professional requirements and usage types – from urban trips to the long haul – reaching best-in-class achievements in terms of fuel consumption and emission levels, with the 1.4 TurboJet dual fuel (petrol/methane) engine.
For the 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre turbo diesel engines, the torque response has been enhanced: allowing higher torque to be produced at low revs (on the 1.3 MJet this has increased by approximately 40%) and consequently greater flexibility and quicker engine response times. The 90 HP 1.3 MultiJet II and 105 HP 1.6 MultiJet II engines are also available in the “EcoJet” version and they offer a considerable reduction in terms of fuel consumption and emission levels, thanks to the use of the Start&Stop system, low rolling resistance tyres, low-viscosity oil, “smart” alternator, variable displacement oil pump and aerodynamic pack. All this makes it possible to achieve fuel consumption levels of up to 4.4 l/100km and 115 g/km of CO2.
Following the launch, the Traction+ system will also be available. It guarantees greater traction even on poor grip surfaces (such as with a wheel on snow or mud) without weighing down the vehicle and increasing running costs (which happens, for example, with 4×4 systems).
Lastly, the performance levels have also been enhanced in terms of acoustics, thanks to dedicated passenger compartment soundproofing solutions which make it possible to achieve an average reduction of 3dB less noise in the cab.
The engine range of the New Doblò comprises six turbodiesels – 1.3 MultiJet II (75 and 90 HP) 200 Nm, 1.6 MultiJet II (100 and 105 HP) 290 Nm, 90 HP 1.6 MultiJet II 200 Nm with robotised gearbox and 135 HP 2.0 MultiJet II 320 Nm- and three petrol engines: 95 HP 1.4 127 Nm, 120 HP 1.4 TurboJet 206 Nm and 120 HP 1.4 TurboJet 206 Nm dual fuel (petrol/methane). Euro 5+ approved, all the diesel engines are marked by great driving satisfaction, excellent performance, quiet running, low running costs (consumption and maintenance) in addition to reliability and environmental sustainability. The petrol engines already comply with the Euro6 emission limits.
In terms of safety, the vehicle’s consistent and predictable road-holding is partly guaranteed by the standard use of state-of-the-art electronic devices for stability control, namely ABS with electronic brake force distribution EBD, ESC complete with ASR (Anti Slip Regulation), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and Hill-Holder systems that help the driver during hill starts. The front airbags and front side bags, which protect both head and chest, in addition to the tyre pressure monitoring system, complete the safety equipment.
As in the previous generations, the New Doblò will be produced in the Tofaş plant in Bursa, Turkey, one of the best industrial automotive sites in the world, as demonstrated by the Gold Medal it was awarded during the World Class Manufacturing assessment.
In a nutshell, the New Doblò offers more functionality, more performance and more value.
New Ducato
The new Fiat Ducato is the latest evolution of a best seller which for 33 years – through its 6 generations – confirms it is the best travel companion and business partner for more than 2.6 million of clients who have chosen it since 1981. Today, to continue playing a leadership role, the new vehicle introduces a number of new features to meet the new needs of customers by offering more technology, more efficiency and more value.
Point of reference in the EMEA Region, over the years the Fiat Ducato has crossed the European borders to reach Russia, Latin America, the Middle East and Australia. It is currently marketed in more than 80 countries world-wide, including North America which, since last year, sees it in a starring role, going by the name of “PROMASTER” under the RAM brand. The Fiat Ducato is therefore a ‘global’ vehicle that will drive the growth of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the light commercial vehicles sector.
The new exterior style is the result of state-of-the-art ‘car design’ which, together with the concept of a light commercial vehicle, conveys a strong sense of dynamism, safety, quality and robustness. The new Fiat Professional vehicle further develops the concept of “design connected to functionality” which has always characterised the model. In particular, the new features include the possibility to customise the appearance of the vehicle with a number of solutions: two different colours of the front grille, the skid-plate that enhances the lower part of the bumper, new headlights with integrated DRL (available upon request with LED technology) and new 16″ light alloy wheels. In addition, the headlights in a high position and the protective bumper divided into 4 sections reduce repair costs. The bonnet design and the solutions adopted reduce maintenance costs and improve engine compartment accessibility.
On the inside the New Ducato offers three interiors – Classic, Techno and Lounge – with growing levels of refinement and elegance, characterised by new seats with stain-resistant fabric upholstery that maintain the top-of-the-range comfort level and by the new cup holder built into the central console. The New Ducato is also the first vehicle to bring the segment the exclusive Multifunction Support available in the middle of all dashboards in the range and compatible with all devices such as smartphones, tablets and conventional pads of paper.
With respect to the previous model, its characteristics of reliability and robustness have been further enhanced thanks to the technological heritage of Fiat Professional and the experience gained by exporting and testing the Ducato model throughout the world. Today as never before, the Ducato addresses a global market and must prove itself up to the job in a wide variety of contexts, each more demanding than the last, improving its robustness and reliability thanks to the specific reinforcements on the body and the doors, the comfort, the new braking systems that increase duration and performance, the enhancements to the lifespan of the suspension and clutch, and a new and exclusive white paint that maintains quality over time.
In keeping with requests of all customers, the New Ducato makes a further leap forward also in terms of efficiency and running costs, developing a long-term strategy to improve its performance levels. Specifically, by working on materials and components, the manufacturers have managed to balance the increase in weight, due to the body reinforcements, by reducing the empty weight (up to 20 kg less for chassis cabs). In addition, thanks to the special rear suspension in composite material – the New Ducato is the only vehicle in its category to fit it – a further reduction in weight of 15 kilos has been achieved.
Less weight means greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions, irrespective of the engine fitted. And to reduce emissions and fuel consumption even further, the New Ducato offers eco-friendly solutions, such as low rolling resistance tyres, low-viscosity oil and low-friction elastic bands.
The updated MultiJet range of engines (Euro 5+) that confirms Fiat Professional’s appreciated and exclusive “one-mission – one engine” strategy contributes to the maximum efficiency of the new vehicle. The 2.0 MultiJet, delivering 115 HP and 280 Nm of maximum torque (5-speed gearbox), is the perfect interpretation of the downsizing concept. It is cost-effective and provides excellent performance, especially in urban environments. The keystone of the Ducato range is the 130 HP 2.3 MultiJet, delivering 320 Nm of maximum torque (6-speed gearbox), the ideal solution for mixed use – agile in traffic, dazzling over long distances – also thanks to the availability of high torque even at low rpm. Interestingly, the specific 2.3 MultiJet 130 HP ECO version – automatically limited to a top speed of 90 km/h – offers surprising values: 153 g/km of CO2 and 5.8 l/100 km of fuel consumption in the combined cycle.
The third engine of the range is the 2.3 MultiJet 150 HP, delivering 350 Nm of maximum torque (6-speed gearbox), best in class, due to its low consumption/high performance ratio combined with low weight making it ideal for demanding usage conditions. There’s also the powerful 3.0 MultiJet 180 HP, delivering 400 Nm of maximum torque (6-speed gearbox), able to satisfy the needs of professionals who want power, torque and acceleration and those who need heavier conversions such as large motorhomes.
Lastly, starting in early 2015, the 3-litre Natural Power (Euro 6) 136 HP with 350 Nm torque will be available, which runs on methane/petrol dual fuel. The Ducato 140 Natural Power will be available in the following versions: van, Combi, Panorama and Chassis Cab with load platform, in both the Ducato and the Ducato Maxi ranges.
In addition, to reduce fuel consumption further, the New Ducato implements three other technologies: the Comfort-matic automated gearbox (available on the 2.3 and 3.0 litre engines) which offers up to 5% fuel savings and greater driving comfort; Start & Stop which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% on urban routes (available on the 2.3 MultiJet 130 and 150 HP engines); and the new Gear Shift Indicator which helps optimise your driving style by suggesting the most appropriate gear to save fuel.
Durability, robustness and the consequent increase in the residual value, combined with efficiency, low running costs and a reduction in the price of spare parts, allow the New Ducato to boast maintenance and repair costs amongst the lowest in its class, a major contribution toward improving the ‘Total Cost of Ownership’, i.e. the total running cost between the purchase and sale of the vehicle.
The New Ducato also demonstrates its cutting-edge credentials with an extremely high-tech equipment range, state-of-the-art safety and driving assist devices, and a new infotainment system. For example, all versions offer the electronic stability control (ESC) as standard. This has been improved through the roll containment system, to increase comfort and protect the load from unexpected motion, in conjunction with the load detection system (LAC), Hill Holder, anti-slip system (ASR) and electronic emergency braking assistance system (EBA).
To ensure greater manoeuvrability and enhanced driving comfort, Servotronic variable assistance power steering is offered as standard on the MultiJet 2.3 and 3.0 engine versions, while further driving assist systems are available on request, such as Traction+ (complete with Hill Descent Control system), lane departure warning system and traffic sign recognition system.
There are also developments in the field of Infotainment, where the new model offers a wide range of radios with Bluetooth technology and MP3 player. Also the exclusive Uconnect system with 5″ colour touchscreen, reversing camera and built-in navigation system are available. Finally, the entire offer is available with decoder for digital radio (DAB) playback, in addition to conventional analogue.
The new vehicle from Fiat Professional offers the widest front-wheel-drive range on the market to meet the many needs of the vast number of customers it was designed for, such as professionals, owner-drivers, fleets, goods transport and people transport companies, motorhome manufacturers or buyers: suffice it to say that by combining the various solutions in terms of body, engine and mechanics, you get 10,000 variants for commercial vehicles, passenger transport and bases for conversions. In detail, within the van range, you can choose from between eight different capacities, ranging from 8 to 17 m³ and boasting the best efficiency in the category. What’s more, the New Ducato will be available in 4 lengths and 3 heights for vans, and 6 lengths for chassis cabs and chassis cowls.
Among the new features, the New Ducato boasts the best gross vehicle weight in the entire ‘single wheel’ category – up to 4.4 tonnes on the camper versions and 4.25 tonnes for Maxi versions – the best permitted weight on the front axle (up to 2,100 kg) and rear axle (further boosted to 2,500 kg) and a record payload (up to 2.1 tonnes for vans).
The New Ducato is also available in the new versions with three-way tipper and 7-seater crew cab van, as well as new optional equipment such as the fixed or removable tow hook and access step to facilitate loading operations, which further reduces the height of the access threshold – already leading the way in the category.
Ducato confirms it is the market leader in the exclusive Camping-Car range. Three out of four motorhomes in Europe are Fiat Ducato-based due to the new and exclusive content such as the Captain Chair revolving seats, which improve comfort and fit to the refined style of a motorhome, new suspension with increased preload and specific Tractor Cab and Tractor Chassis Cowl versions that allow another 600 variants to be installed to permit the utmost customisation requested by clients in the sector.
In a nutshell, the New Ducato offers more technology, more efficiency and more value.
Fiat Professional outfitted vehicles star in the outside area
The outside area of the show will feature a concept vehicle on a Fiat Ducato base, created in conjunction with Mopar: the ideal mobile service centre, complete with sets of equipment such as diagnostic tools, and compartments for storing spare parts and accessories. There are also extendible canopies on both sides of the vehicle, making it possible to perform checks and maintenance almost anywhere. The mobile service centre can also perform an electronic check-up by tablet (wiADVISOR), thanks to both its dedicated Internet access and its large 32″ flat screen, which ensures that the customer benefits from complete process transparency.
