NHTSA’s proposed untimely recall fine sparks opposition

The Automaker Accountability Act of 2014 calls for steeper penalties for safety violations.

Recent recall commotion has led to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ordering GM to pay a US$35m settlement for failing to act on an ignition switch defect for ten years that led to the death of at least 13 people and the recall of approximately 2.6 million vehicles.
