Mercedes-Benz reviews its van strategy for the North American market

Mercedes-Benz has decided to set up a manufacturing plant for vans in the NAFTA region, bringing about a change in its current strategy of assembling vans from knocked-down kits.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a rear-wheel drive full-size van, has been in operation since 1995, when the first generation was launched in Europe. In North America, the van was first launched in 2001, and was sold as the Freightliner Sprinter. Last April, Daimler unveiled the latest version of the Sprinter.
