Lighter vehicles, slower crashes: Aluminium as safe, if not safer, than steel, says Novelis

Novelis wants to put to bed any remaining safety fears over the CT6's aluminium-intensive body. By Xavier Boucherat

Aluminium manufacturer Novelis has revealed its role in the production of Cadillac’s CT6, unveiled in March 2016. The new premium model’s body is based on  an aluminium-intensive ‘Omega architecture' design that uses 11 materials, including a total of 13 high-pressure aluminium castings. These will feature in the passenger and rear compartments, roof structure, outer body panels and door and deck lid structures. In total, the body is composed of around 62% aluminium.
