Vehicle lightweighting has been seen as an important avenue to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy for many years. New materials that are lighter, stronger and cheaper continue to be produced by the steel industry, while some OEMs have been looking at the potential for aluminium-intensive cars, like Ford with its F-150.
However, Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) believes that plastics have numerous advantages over both steel and aluminium. Speaking to Automotive World, Frank Macher, Chief Executive of CSP, explained the growing potential for plastics in the automotive industry.
