COMMENT: Car-share success hinges on political leadership and policy guidance

From UK city councillors to those governing European borders, leaders must understand why car-sharing is not only the future of the automotive industry, but part of the solution to the Europe-wide crisis of urban congestion and air pollution. By James Taylor

By 2030 urban areas are projected to house 60% of the global population, according to the United Nations. Cities increase business and prosperity, but can also experience challenges including congestion and increased levels of air pollution. Governments across Europe have imposed stricter regulations on vehicle emissions, which is an encouraging step forward. However,  if they are going to meet air pollution targets, governments need to get serious about decreasing reliance on privately owned vehicles.
