- Display on the show stand of the sales partner “Motor Coach Industries International Inc.”
At this year’s trade fair of the United Motorcoach Association (UMA) Expo in Atlanta, Georgia (31 January to 4 February 2016), the Setra brand is putting the spotlight on an exclusively equipped S 417 TC touring coach. The US version of the European Setra TopClass is on show at the stand of the North American sales and service partner “Motor Coach Industries International Inc.” (MCI).
Manufactured in Neu-Ulm, the 13.7 m long three-axle model with a central entrance and glass roof is equipped with 40 Setra Voyage Ambassador seats and an exclusive premium club lounge. Plus the TopClass S 417 TC has a back-friendly driver’s seat, LED interior lights and a reversing camera with an integral cleaning system on board. The touring coach meets the strict US requirements in the field of active safety and, with the environmentally friendly and efficient Mercedes-Benz engine OM 471 LA (336 kW), the criteria of the American emissions standard EPA 10 for nitrogen oxides and particulate emissions. At the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, for the first time in the USA Setra is presenting the new luxury head restraints whose “wings” can be folded forward up to 90 degrees. The new US feature is steplessly adjustable by up to 85 millimetres.
S 417 TC driving in the North American success lane since 2003
For 13 years now the S 417 TC has been out and about on the roads of the United States, Canada and Mexico. A total of over 1200 units of this luxury touring coach had been sold in these markets by the end of 2015. Five years ago the brand from the Daimler AG stable launched the face-lifted version with an even sharper focus on safety.
The Ulm brand’s coaches are sold by the Canadian company Motor Coach Industries International Inc. (MCI), one of the leading touring coach manufacturers in the USA and Canada. Based in Des Plaines, Illinois, the partner of Daimler Buses secured the exclusive rights for the sale and service of Setra buses in the United States and Canada more than three years ago. The vehicles are still developed and built in Germany. The brand has announced a further facelift of the S 417 TC model for the coming summer.
