Fiat S.p.A. has once again been included in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World. The company received a score of 87/100 compared with an overall average of 58/100 for companies in the Automobiles industry evaluated by RobecoSAM, the specialists in sustainability investment.
This result places Fiat Group’s economic, environmental and social performance among the world’s leading companies.
Membership in the DJSI World equity index is limited to organizations judged best-in- class when compared with the majority of their peers based on selected sustainability criteria. RobecoSAM evaluated the performance of 32 Automobile sector companies and ultimately admitted only three to the DJSI World Index.
The Group achieved the maximum score in the following areas:
- environmental, for its climate change strategy and environmental policies and management
- economic, for innovation and risk management
The Group also received the best score in its industry for supply chain management, labor practices indicators and human rights.
In 2013, Fiat Group made considerable progress in its commitment to offer individual mobility solutions while balancing environmental and community considerations. As a result of its continued efforts, the Group received several recognitions at the international level:
- Leadership in Europe for natural gas vehicles in 2013, with more than 67% market share
- 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo bi-fuel natural gas-powered engine named Best Green Engine of the Year 2013
- 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 and Fiat 500e Battery-Electric Drive System among Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2014
- Fiat Professional named Light Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year for the second year in a row
- Ram 1500 named Motor Trend 2014 Truck of the Year for its fuel economy, torque, style and amenities – the only consecutive winner in the history of the award
- City Brake Control given the EURO NCAP 2013 Advanced award for advanced safety technologies
- World Class Manufacturing gold level achieved by the Bielsko Biala, Bursa, Pomigliano d’Arco and Tychy plants
- Bielsko Biala plant in Poland presented with the prestigious Automotive Lean Production Award 2013
Additionally, the Group continued to reduce the environmental footprint of its worldwide manufacturing plants, resulting in a 15.5% decrease in CO2 emissions per vehicle produced compared with 2010, and a 35% reduction in water usage.
Resources committed by the Group to benefit local communities through social
initiatives amounted to more than €19 million.
