OEMs tweak business model to collaborate with cities

OEMs like Ford are branching out to offer new forms of transport solutions in the hope of tackling urban congestion, writes Michael Nash

The growth of cities across the world is changing the way OEMs construct their business models. Many companies have announced plans to expand their strategies, evolving from the traditional OEM that simply builds and sells passenger cars to one that offers a variety of transport solutions and services.

At a recent event hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) – the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the San Francisco Bay Area – Ford announced plans to team up with major cities across the world to solve congestion issues and help people travel in a more efficient manner.
