Natural disasters can have a long lasting effect on manufacturing operations, stretching far beyond the surface factory damage. The tsunamis and earthquakes which have hit parts of Asia over the past few years have highlighted weaknesses in the supply chain, and sent many automotive companies scrambling to address operational inefficiencies.
