Hindustan Motors has commenced assembly in India of Mitsubishi’s Pajero Sport SUV. Assembling this vehicle in India will cut its price by Rs187,000 (US$3,487).
The SUV will now carry a price tag of Rs2.26m, compared with the earlier price of Rs2.44m, according to the Press Trust of India. Production of this model takes place at Hindustan Motors’ facility in Tiruvallur.
Through this model, the company intends to capture 20% of the premium SUV market in India. At the moment, the Pajero Sport SUV has a localisation rate of 14%. However, the OEM is looking to raise this level up to 30% by the next financial year.
“Currently, components like tyre, battery, window glass, seat belts, lamps, wiper assembly, alloy wheels and headlining are the major items, which are being localised at its Tiruvallur plant,” PTI reports the company as saying.
Hindustan Motors currently has dealerships across 40 locations, but intends raise this number to 55 by the end of this year.
