Renault reportedly plans to shift more production from France to Turkey. The OEM, sources say, plans to produce more than 70% of its Clio model in Turkey.
“This was presented as a decision,” Reuters quotes a union official as saying on condition of anonymity.
According to the report, two unnamed union officials said that Renault disclosed a plan to source less than 30% of the new Clio from France, during internal presentations.
Renault has been present in Turkey for more than four decades through its subsidiary Oyak-Renault. Renault holds 51% of the company, while the remaining 49% is held by Oyak (Turkish Armed Forces Pension Fund).
A Renault spokesman declined to comment regarding production plans for the new fourth-generation Clio. With regard to the previous generation of this model, Renault produced around 41% in France, while 46% of the total number was produced in Turkey, and 13% were sourced from Spain, Reuters said.
In September, Renault and the Mayor of Antalya signed an agreement aimed at local promotion and deployment of electric vehicles. This partnership programme focuses on setting up charging points infrastructure in the territory of the prefecture of Antalya for EVs produced in Bursa Oyak Renault plants.
