Ongoing research seeks to combine steel & aluminium in tailored tubes

The race to make vehicles lighter has seen global automotive manufacturers trying out various methods to make their vehicles lighter. Some have gone the way of new materials, such as aluminium or carbon fibre composites, while others are trying a combination of different materials. In the end, the goal is the same: to reduce vehicle weight in order to improve fuel mileage and cut down emissions.
