Production of new vehicles in Argentina dropped 14.1% year-on-year to 68,726 units in September 2012. According to the Argentine automotive manufacturers association Adefa, vehicle production last month fell month-on-month as well, by 13.7%, compared with the 79,664 units produced in August this year, Dow Jones Newswires reports. Adefa President Viktor Klima attributed the decline in part to three fewer work days in September 2012.

Automotive exports from Argentina continued to slide in September. The country’s automotive industry exported a total of 39,982 vehicles last month, down 9.8% on September 2011 levels. Exports were, however, up 11.5% compared with August this year.

Exports have been improving month-on-month in recent months, showing signs of recovery from the slump witnessed in the first half of this year. This decline was primarily due to reduced exports to Brazil, which traditionally accounts for 80% of Argentina’s total vehicle exports. Klima expects this trend of improved automotive exports from Argentina to continue.
