A significant award for ZF in Australia: The Dingley location (Melbourne), which is part of the Chassis Technology division, received GM’s “Quality Excellence Award”. With this award that was granted for the first time at the end of 2012, GM recognized those suppliers who have demonstrated the highest levels of quality performance over the previous 12 months.

“We are extremely delighted that GM selected us as winners of this new award for top suppliers”, says Dr. Torsten Bremer, Head of the Rubber & Plastics business unit of the Chassis Technology division. “This shows that the production processes of ZF and their consistent application by the local colleagues are convincing and meet the highest requirements of automotive manufacturers.” The “GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award” had already been handed over by the US automotive group to its best suppliers at a GM supplier conference in Melbourne in December 2012.

“Suppliers play a vital part in the overall quality of our vehicles”, said Grace Lieblein, vice president of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain at GM. “Their hard work and dedication is part of the foundation which helps GM continue to be a leader in product quality and overall customer satisfaction.”

“It was with tremendous pride that we accepted this quality recognition award from GM Holden on December 5th”, said James Russell, Managing Director of the Dingley site. “It is fitting acknowledgment of the dedication that our well qualified and experienced workforce here and around the world has made working alongside GM Holden.”

The Australian ZF location in Dingley exclusively produces rubber-metal components. Besides GM, Ford is one of the most important customers of ZF in Australia. The ZF location supplies the GM Holden brand in several different ways: Engine mounts for the Holden VE Commodore are delivered directly to the GM Holden V6 engine production location in nearby Melbourne as well as for V8 engines to the Vehicle Assembly Plant in Adelaide. Dingley also supplies a ZF axle assembly plant in Adelaide, where the front and rear axles are assembled for the Commodore and sent just in time to the nearby GM Holden assembly line.

Founded in 1951, as “Holding Rubber Products”, 2013 marks the 50th year of supply by the Australian ZF location to the GM Australian passenger car subsidiary Holden. Following several changes in the ownership structure, the plant in Dingley has been part of the ZF Group since 2002.
