State-of-the-art technologies on about 4,500 square meters of additional space

Webasto, the global market leader for sunroofs, panorama roofs and convertible roofs as well as heat systems, is investing more than 2.5 million euros in the expansion of its Mexican plant for convertible roofs in Puebla. As a result, the company is increasing the production capacities to a total of 11,800 square meters and is reinforcing the location as a competence center for textiles in North America. Webasto currently employs around 220 people in Puebla.

The automotive supplier is constantly developing customer-specific solutions using innovative ideas and highly efficient processes at all its locations. In the course of its expansion in Mexico, the company is using state-of-the-art flexible technologies in the areas of, among other things, adhesive systems for rear windows and riveting processes for jointed components. “We are committed to the Puebla location and are investing not only in a building and modern facilities, but above all in our employees,” explained Walter Pecho, who is responsible for the global convertible business at Webasto, on the occasion of the opening ceremony. “The fact that we are so competitive in Mexico is due mainly to our dedicated staff.”

Webasto is currently manufacturing products such as the VW Beetle Softtop and the Jeep ThrowBack roof in Puebla, as well as textile components for the Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Mustang. Further projects are being planned.

After the one-year construction phase, the opening ceremony took place as planned on October 18, 2017 despite the earthquake that took place shortly beforehand. Fortunately, neither the employees nor the company building were directly affected by the disaster.
