Innovation reduces both fuel consumption and the emission of pollutants entailed in it

Prize winner Dr. Magnus MackAldener, development engineer of Scania, the Swedish maker of commercial vehicles, was awarded the “Professor Ferdinand Porsche Prize” today. He was given the prize by Vienna University of Technology, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, and Porsche Holding, Salzburg, for the outstanding development of especially efficient and eco-friendly exhaust technology for commercial vehicles. MackAldener was able to expedite significantly the introduction of eco-friendly and cost-saving exhaust technology.

“His innovation reduces both fuel consumption and the emission of pollutants entailed in it,” said Matthias Müller, President and CEO of Porsche AG. In his laudation for the prize winner, he honoured MackAldener’s work as proof of the enormous innovative power with which the European car industry stands its ground in global competition. “Vehicle makers and suppliers contribute substantially so that Europe is sustained economically, while ensuring employment and wealth in the region.”

The “Professor Ferdinand Porsche Prize” was awarded the 18th time this year. With prize money of 50,000 euros, it is one of the best endowed prizes for achievements in research in the area of automotive technology. The prize was founded through the endowment by Louise Piëch, the daughter of Professor Ferdinand Porsche, in 1977. Porsche Holding, Salzburg, and Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, each provide one-half of the sum of the prize money.
