Kögel is unveiling a completely new development with this Port 40 Light container chassis, delivering substantial improvements in payload resulting from weight optimisation measures. This rigid lightweight container chassis makes a big hit with the low tare weight, in the basic version, of less than 4000 kilograms, a technical gross weight of 41,000 kilograms and a fifth-wheel load of 14,000 kilograms. It is suitable for the transport of both two 20-foot containers or one 40-foot high-cube container.
The new Kögel Port 40 Light container chassis weighs just 3990 kilograms in its basic version, making it one of the lightest on the market. This is a technical solution for payloads in excess of 37,000 kilograms and therefore guarantees maximum cost-effectiveness for intermodal transport. With custom options such as light alloy wheels, aluminium support legs and aluminium air tanks for the braking system, there is scope for reducing the weight of this unit even more. The very low tare weight of the basic unit is the outcome of design optimisation measures to maximise payload and to achieve weight reductions on this chassis. The Kögel engineers responsible drew some of their inspiration from the tried-and-tested lightweight build concept of the Kögel Port 20 Tankplex, but they also employed a new cross beam concept that saves yet more weight as a result of its ingenious welded construction. Like all Kögel Port models, the Port 40 Light is particularly cost-effective, thanks to its simple and user-friendly operability and the tremendous ease of maintenance.
Optimised rear section for ramp access
To simplify the tasks of loading and unloading the containers on the ramp, the Port 40 Light container chassis is equipped with a rear section that is inset by 70 millimetres and therefore also with an optimised underride guard that is also inset. That means that the vehicle can get closer to the ramp, and the gap between container and ramp that needs to be bridged with a drive-over panel is correspondingly reduced. In the course of the next few months, all other Kögel Port models will gradually be adapted to incorporate this optimised rear section as standard equipment.
Cathodic dip-paint coating: long-lasting protection against corrosion
As with all Kögel vehicles, the entire vehicle chassis on the Port 40 Light is protected by nano-ceramic technology and cathodic dip-paint coating followed by UV painting as a lasting protection against corrosion.
The new Kögel Port 40 Light is available with immediate effect. For regular maintenance, including replacement parts and wear parts and for thelegally required full inspection and the safety inspection, the Kögel full-service packages BasicService and ProService can be added to suit individual needs.
