Pumps from Dürr can be used in a wide variety of applications in many different industrial sectors – from liquid paints to highly viscous sealants, adhesives, and coating materials. Dürr relies on a state-of-the-art test benchmarks to improve the quality and safety standards used to develop and manufacture these pumps. By conducting inspections and quality checks that go far beyond the scope of conventional industry standards, the company is able to ensure that all of its pump systems comply with the DIN EN 12162 safety standard.
As pumps continue to reach higher levels of technical sophistication, users expect these units to be compatible with a large number of applications involving paints and highly viscous matter. Dürr has responded to this challenge by offering an impressive range of different models for transporting these types of materials.
Pumps that are in perfect working condition play a key role not only when it comes to streamlining the production process and making it as efficient as possible, but also to ensure occupational safety. After all, leaked fluids or ruptured pump housings of high-pressure pumps, whose internal pressure levels can reach 500bar, can lead to life-threatening accidents. “Performance, safety, and durability are defining characteristics of our products”, emphasizes Dr. Hans Schumacher, who heads the Application Technology Division at Dürr. “All pumps are therefore thoroughly checked and inspected in line with DIN specifications before final delivery is made to our customers.”
Full-scope testing leads to reliable operation
The pumps are fully tested on an automated system that runs through various routines aligned with DIN EN 12162 safety standard requirements. To this end, Dürr maintains seven test bench stations in Bietigheim-Bissingen to check every pump system for possible malfunctions once they are fully assembled. During static pressure testing, for example, 1.3 times the maximum rated pressure is applied for ten minutes. This first step allows the experts at Dürr to determine whether the pressure-bearing components form a sufficiently tight seal. Control units and pump drives are also thoroughly tested. When all testing has been completed, every pump is examined once again with a visual inspection.
Not all pumps are the same
Thanks to their modular structure, Dürr pumps are very easy to maintain, meeting the highest quality standards. They are extremely versatile and can be adapted to many different coating procedures and drives, and be used to transport a wide variety of materials. The EcoPump HP and EcoPump HPE horizontal piston pumps, for example, are the ideal candidate to use for transporting liquid materials such as water and solvent-based paints. The EcoPump VP, on the other hand, which is a pneumatically driven vertical piston pump, was developed by Dürr specifically with medium and high-pressure applications in mind. Typical materials for this unit include highly viscous media such as sealants, adhesives, waxes, and similar coating materials as well as paints and lacquers, which are transported in an airless or air-assisted application environment. All pumps are manufactured and thoroughly tested in Germany according to proven Dürr quality standards.
