Lexus today unveiled the new “RC 350” and “RC 300h” sports coupes scheduled for launch in the second half of 2014.  The cars were unveiled at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show, which will run from today through December 1 at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo.

The RC delivers the sporty design and engaging driving experience expected of a sports coupe, while the Lexus Hybrid Drive ensures outstanding environmental performance.

New Design with Instant Lexus Appeal

The dynamic styling of the RC features a low-set wide stance, a sporty side profile and overhanging wheel flares for a more aggressive look.  The exterior also incorporates iconic Lexus design elements, including the iconic spindle grille, three-in-one independent LED headlights inspired by the LF-LC, and an evolved version of the L-shaped rear combination lamps.  Newly developed wheels with special machine-cut designs are available in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes.

The newly-developed red body color is bold and appealing, and forms part of a five-layer body coating that includes a vibrant undercoat and clearcoat.  The overall effect gives a stunning, sensuous nuance to the vehicle’s contoured surfaces.

Sporty, Superbly Crafted Interior

The interior is sporty and refined, with a horizontally accented instrument panel and a wrap-around driver’s seat layout for ease-of-use.  With seats that offer an exceptional fit thanks to their “integrated foaming” production process, and large side knee pads, the cockpit supports precise, sporty maneuvering during sports driving.  Contrasting textures, such as padded surfaces and wood-grain and metallic ornamentation, create an interior that is truly worthy of a luxury coupe.

Exhilarating Drive

The platform is based on the GS package, enabling the use of large-diameter wheels.  The wide tread and a wheelbase that is 70 mm shorter than the IS further highlight the sporty design and nimble handling.  The lightweight high-rigidity body utilizes high-rigidity rocker panels and cutting-edge production technologies such as laser screw welding and structural adhesive for better driving stability.

The RC 350 employs an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, achieving the smooth acceleration of a multi-speed automatic transmission, and provides the direct feel of switching gears in a mere 0.2 seconds while in the M position.

Two powertrains are available to meet the diverse needs of consumers: a powerful 3.5-liter gasoline powertrain and a 2.5-liter Lexus Hybrid Drive with exceptional environmental performance.  The RC 300h hybrid utilizes a 2.5-liter 2AR-FSE engine with D-4S1 direct injection technology for high power and fuel economy.

Advanced Lexus Technologies

The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with extended detection range now notifies the driver of approaching vehicles even further in advance, thus improving safety.  A new remote touch interface with touchpad functionality allows for intuitive operation of the navigation, audio, and other systems.
