In late September, 2016, a technical achievement press conference “Platform Leads to Quality Products, Foundation Assists in Leapfrogged Development”, which was hold by Chery Preliminary Research and Basic Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as Preliminary Research Institute), took place at Wuhu-based Chery Headquarters in China. Composed of three major parts, which are, one topic report, three special reports, and field display of real objects, this technical achievement press conference aims to showcase Chery’s “invisible” technical strength behind its visible products.
Each year, Chery Headquarters in China holds internal technology launch conference on an irregular basis, so as to not only display and exchange achievements, but also share experience. During this conference, Chery showcased a string of achievements and data, displaying Chery’s core technologies in platform development, complete vehicle engineering feasibility study, concept design, design simulation, and size engineering, in addition to Chery’s “invisible” strength in fundamental technology system like “full-lifecycle” data management and “collaborative design”.
In Chery’s entire “Forward Development” system, the Preliminary Research Institute shoulders two major responsibilities, namely, platform development & preliminary Research of complete vehicle project, and construction of fundamental technology system. “In comparison with other domestic carmakers, Chery takes the leading place in forward development system for it is down-to-earth in basic preliminary research, which is viewed as the starting point for Chery’s forward development,” Anning Chen, executive deputy general manager of Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., was quoted as saying. According to President of the Preliminary Research Institute Tinglun Song, platform development and preliminary research do not mean development of a given product, but refer to the process for planning and development of a platform, which is right the forward development’s requirement about platform and generalization, and also the core of the forward development. In addition, customers’ demands will be integrated into the complete vehicle platform at the phase of platform development, for example, T1X platform for Tiggo 7 was developed mainly by the Preliminary Research Institute, and T1X platform tops other platforms of Chinese brands in performance, with generalization rate of power assemblies and key accessories of vehicle models of the same platform hitting 90%.
Chery also takes “Fundamental Technology System” as the foundation to showcase its core competitiveness. So far, Chery’s fundamental technology system has ranked the leading place in China, and it has even rivaled or topped mainstream brands. For example, Chery has set up the collaborative design platform while taking PDM (Product Data Management) as the core, and the platform supports online collaborative design by 2,800 engineers. So far, Chery has realized 100% product data management, making it match JV enterprises in this regard.
In China, Chery has established an R & D team with more than 5,000 technicians. Made up of Chery Technical Center Shanghai (CTCS), Chery China Headquarters Research Institute,QOROS, and Chery Jaguar Land Rover teams, Chery R & D Team takes on internationalization and collaboration features. In his talks with engineers at the press conference, Anning Chen pointed out that as long as persisting in forward development, endeavors to improve the product competitiveness, and develop high-quality products, Chery will be capable of competing against mainstream brands.
With its unceasing endeavors in improving its technologies and strengthening its fundamental technology system, Chery will bring worldwide consumers more quality products and more amazing car life.
