Jens Hanefeld (49) assumed his new position as Head of International Policy at Volkswagen Group External Relations and Government Relations effective February 1, 2014.
Having studied modern history and English, Hanefeld began his career as an attaché with the Federal Foreign Office in 1991. Postings in London, Sofia and Washington were followed by his appointment in 2000 as an assistant at the Political Directorate-General of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Hanefeld was chief of staff to several State Secretaries from 2001. In 2005, he was appointed head of the Office of the State Secretaries before taking up the post of minister and deputy chief of mission at the German Embassy in the United States in Washington in 2009.
In his new function Hanefeld reports to Dr. Thomas Steg, General Representative for Global Government Affairs Volkswagen Group.
