As of January 10, 2013 the inbound material handling at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki car plant will be transferred to HUB logistics. After the transfer, HUB logistics will be responsible for unloading and storing of component deliveries as well as for part deliveries to the assembly lines. HUB logistics will build a logistical center with an automated storage system next to the car plant.
At Valmet Automotive, the change will affect 52 persons working in the internal logistics. They transfer to HUB logistics as serving employees. Mr. Aarno Törmälä, CEO, HUB logistics, says that the intention is to recruit and train a considerable number of new logistics workers for the needs of the car plant.
The launch of the Mercedes-Benz A-Series production during 2013 will increase the car plant production and traffic volumes significantly.
“HUB logistics is the leading company in the business, and best qualified to develop the internal logictics functions and the personnel at the Uusikaupunki plant in a situation where the production and component deliveries are rising to a new high level”, says Mr. Olli Kerajärvi, VP Quality and Supply Chain Management.
“The arrangement for internal logistics promotes both the cost-efficiency of car manufacturing and the competitiveness of the company. Thereby we can focus increasingly on our core competence, developing the high-quality series manufacturing of cars”, says Mr. Kerajärvi.
Valmet Automotive will continue to handle the management of total logistics, material planning and accounting, deliveries, forwarding, customs clearance and delivering the complete cars from the plant.
