Regardless of whether your destination is the Bay of Lübeck or South Tyrol, the seaside or the mountains – for many holidaymakers the holiday destination can be thousands of motorway kilometres from home. Such large distances can be covered in a more relaxed manner when the car is equipped with ACC –Adaptive Cruise Control. This intelligent cruise control brakes and accelerates automatically. Volkswagen offers this “anti-stress system” for almost all its model series.

ACC – that’s the abbreviation for Adaptive Cruise Control. “Adaptive” refers to the fact that the cruise control automatically adapts to the flow of traffic. At the heart of the ACC is a radar system. This “eye” is located in the middle of the front section and registers the distance and relative speed to the vehicle ahead – when it brakes the Volkswagen does too. The same applies to acceleration. And all the time the car keeps to the stipulated minimum distance. A further part of the ACC system is Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring system. This combination greatly reduces the risk of causing a rear-end collision – thus enhancing safety.

As with cruise control, the driver simply inputs the desired speed. For Volkswagen vehicles with a manual gearbox this is possible from a speed of 30 km/h. With an automatic gearbox or DSG respectively a speed of 0 km/h can be set; in the case of stop-and-go traffic the car then automatically moves off again.
On board all Polo, Golf, Touran and Tiguan vehicles ACC can be activated up to a speed of 160 km/h. For the Passat and Touareg the range far exceeds 200 km/h. Furthermore, within permitted limits the driver can set the distance to the traffic ahead. One thing is certain: those who have travelled with ACC before won’t want to be without it again – because it makes motorway driving more relaxed and safer. And so a holiday feeling kicks in after the first few kilometres.
