- The Solaris, Russia’s most loved model, is the one millionth car produced by the award-winning plant
- Approximately 7,000 manufacturing-related jobs have been created by the facility
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia (HMMR) in Saint-Petersburg achieved the cumulative production mark of one million units today since the start of mass production in January 2011. The Solaris, one of the best sellers in Russia, rolled off as the one millionth anniversary vehicle.
The celebration of this landmark was held under the presence of Governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko as well as Hyundai Motor customers, dealers and employees who have shown ceaseless dedication and efforts.
“Today is a remarkable day in the history of Hyundai Motor, and our plant and employees. We have reached an impressive milestone of producing one million cars just within five years of our start of production. For the plant’s products to meet high quality standards and become best sellers on the market, we have achieved stable and efficient production lines. I would like to thank all employees and partners who made this happen. Furthermore, I especially appreciate our customers’ continued affection for our products,” said Choi Dong Ryeol, the General Director of HMMR, during the ceremony.
As one of the largest car manufacturers in Russia, HMMR produces 200,000 vehicles annually. The plant is equipped with state-of-the-art automation industry machineries including 185 robots, which ensure high safety and quality of manufactured vehicles.
Moreover, HMMR reached a 46 percent of localization with collaboration from local suppliers and has created approximately 7,000 jobs in the region.
Last April, the plant received the “Efficiency” award from St. Petersburg Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce for achieving significant sales results in the Russian market, meeting high standards of business-ethics and the willingness to overcome the difficulties. In June 2014, HMMR also received the “Russian Federation Quality Award” as a reliable manufacturer of high-quality and competitive products.
