The Hungarian government and Daimler AG agreed on extensive cooperation activities earlier today. Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary, and Martin Jäger, Vice President External Affairs of Daimler AG, signed a corresponding agreement at the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest. The primary common goal is to establish and reinforce the region of Kecskemét as a center of the Hungarian automobile industry on a long-term basis. Earlier this year, Daimler AG inaugurated a Mercedes-Benz plant for compact class cars in Kecskemét.
The core points of the cooperation are initiatives for further development of specialist education in the regions, automotive research projects at Hungarian universities and reinforcement of the national supplier landscape. In addition, Daimler will participate with innovative and environmentally friendly vehicles in public bids for contracts in local transport and will examine possibilities for the introduction of sustained mobility concepts in Hungary. The Hungarian government, for its part, has declared its intention to additionally improve investment conditions at the location Hungary, with continued attractive incentives for foreign companies.
Martin Jäger at the signing of the agreement: “We want to further develop the investment location Hungary together. In doing so we will continue to rely on the already existing good cooperation between the Government and our company.”
The government and company mutually agree that the Mercedes-Benz Production at the Kecskemét site and the measures agreed upon today will make an important contribution to the cooperative activities between Hungary and the Federal Republic of Germany. A working group for development and work on specific projects and ideas will be formed. This group, comprised of representatives of the Ministry of the National Economy, the municipal government of Kecskemét, the Agency for Investment and Trade Promotion (Agentur für Investitions- und Handelsförderung (HITA)) as well as Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing GmbH, is to begin meeting shortly after the signing of the partnership agreement.*Automotive World is not responsible for the content of this news release.
