- HARMAN and Porsche expand their partnership, bringing HARMAN infotainment to the brand-new Porsche Macan, and for the first time into the Porsche 911.
HARMAN, the premium global audio and infotainment group (NYSE:HAR), is expanding its collaboration with Porsche, a Volkswagen Group company, and delivering premium infotainment into more Porsche vehicles than ever. The brand-new compact SUV by Porsche, the Macan, and the Porsche 911 Targa, both on show here in Geneva, are equipped with a richly spec-ed HARMAN infotainment system, with sharp graphics, reliable navigation and an array of entertainment choices that are certain to delight drivers as they take to the roads this spring.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Porsche in the new Macan and the latest 911 Targa,” says SachinLawande,President of HARMAN’s InfotainmentDivision. “The next-generation infotainment system will deliver uncompromising excellence into the vehicles to delight and satisfy a highly discerning clientele.”
Porsche Macan and Porsche 911 Targa drivers certainly have plenty to look forward to – with superior multimedia-driven infotainment to match the exhilarating driving experience. The heart of the system is the full-color 7-inch/16:9 TFT touchscreen, which delivers crisp, brilliant graphics for at-a-glance recognition of function choices, as well as a clear view of the road ahead provided by the unit’s best in-class navigation. With its spacious 100 GB hard disk drive, the infotainment system can store detailed map data, offering drivers realistic 3D city maps and landscape representation, and an automatic zooming function for a clearer – and safer – view of busy town intersections. Dynamic route guidance is also available through RDS/TMCPro, to get drivers and passengers to their chosen destination by the fastest and safest route. Fully voice controlled, the unit enables drivers to speak destinations in a one-shot move, and during the journey instructions are spoken clearly and consistently with support for eight languages.
Equally advanced is the connectivity: drivers can plug in an audio player or USB stick, or hook up their smartphone via Bluetooth and access the Internet via their phone – which provides access to the exciting world of digital radio (2-DAB+ in Europe, and SDARS Digital Satellite Radio in the USA and Canada). Drivers and passengers can also connect to Aha radio, which seamlessly organizes and integrates selected content from the web for storing on phones and in cars, making it easily accessible from anywhere. Integrated entertainment choices are also impressive, with an 2-RDS scan diversity tuner on board, plus a CD player for audio playback.
