At this year’s 9th Aachen Colloquium China Automobile and Engine Technology, global vehicle developer FEV is concentrating on the core issues of sustainable mobility.

FEV´s capabilities cover the complete scope of turnkey vehicle development. Since the development competence for powertrain and vehicle can be offered from a single source, FEV is an attractive and powerful development partner.

In the exhibition area accompanying the conference, FEV will be presenting a model of “SVEN”, a fully electric, compact three-seater designed as a car-sharing vehicle for sustainable urban mobility. “SVEN” (Shared Vehicle Electric Native) celebrated its world premiere this year at the Geneva Motor Show. It also received positive responses from visitors at the recent IAA in Frankfurt.

With the FlexBody display, FEV is also presenting a low-investment design kit for lightweight body structures that uses industrial origami technology, for example. This design kit offers an ideal platform for the lightweight construction and design development of A00 vehicles with series production of up to 7,000 vehicles per year.

Aside from efficient combustion engines, FEV also offers a number of solutions in the area of alternative drive systems. In addition to battery electric drive systems, hydrogen technology also has a key role in the future. FEV Group has been involved in the design, development and integration of fuel cell technologies for 20 years, and has developed and demonstrated its “Breeze Demonstration Car” several years ago. This has been followed by various support for the automotive and vehicle industry. Today, FEV Group is capable of developing customer-specified adaptation and integration of scalable full fuel cell systems and auxiliary components ranging from concept to full integration into vehicles such as railways, trucks or passenger cars. FEV will present a fuel cell that can be used for multiple purposes, due to its high outputs and compact structure that was designed for mass production.

Another highlight for FEV at the ACC is the presentation of a coaxial EDU model, a comprehensive concept for the C/D class up to light commercial vehicles. The maximum power and output torque is 230kW / 3500Nm with a total weight of 85kg. A special feature is the oil-cooled electric motor, which is characterized by its low electrical consumption. In addition, the internal oil cooling can increase the continuous output by up to 50 percent.

In the area of software and test solutions, FEV presents advanced software tools for simulation, calibration, testing and data management. Users benefit from a unique software environment – the FEV Collaborative Framework – from desktop to test bench to road. With vCAP, FEV presents a virtual calibration platform for the optimization of engine control units and thus complies with the new standards (EURO6d) and new cycles (WLTP and RDE): Thanks to precise simulation, vCAP can save up to 50% of physical tests. FEVFLEX, FEV’s data management system, manages all technical data and test benches from 24/7 research and development centers. In addition, FEV will present leading-edge test bench equipment, such as a high-speed test bench for e-motors and e-axles, which offers high reliability at high rotation speeds.
