  • Twizy Way by Renault, an innovative and eco-friendly car-sharing concept, will help the French atomic energy agency (CEA) in its continuing effort to craft an integrated and sustainable mobility strategy.
  • A fleet of 20 self-service Twizy cars will be provided for personnel to get around CEA’s Grenoble facility.

Twizy Way by Renault pursues its development at CEA’s Grenoble facility

After the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines urban community brought in Twizy car sharing for the general public starting in July last year, CEA’s Grenoble facility is the first business client to adopt Twizy Way by Renault. CEA is thus pursuing its provision of electric mobility solutions from Renault, having already equipped its fleet with Renault Z.E vehicles.

CEA Grenoble site mobility plan
Backed by ADEME, the French environment and energy agency, and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the mobility plan at CEA’s Grenoble facility has been integral since 2002 to a partnership strategy involving employees, unions, local authorities, public transport operators and neighbours of the Grenoble Presqu’île science park.

In deciding to get fewer employees driving to work alone, to offer alternatives to car use at its facility and to promote public and other eco-friendly forms of transport, CEA is setting a high standard of corporate citizenship with a view to encouraging its employees to adopt more sustainable modes of travel at and outside its facility. By promoting the use of alternative forms of transport, and more recently by boosting the level of car sharing, CEA has brought the percentage of single-occupant drivers among its workforce down to 36.4%.

Twizy Way by Renault boosts CEA’s car-sharing service
Since December 2012, 150 employees have already signed up to this turnkey service to get around the facility every day using their company badge. Each Twizy is available to drive immediately without having to book. Management of the car fleet is facilitated by doing away with keys and using a smartphone application to geolocate the Twizy vehicles and track their charging levels and use.

Twizy Way gives firms’ employees a clean, flexible and simple form of on-site transport for their everyday needs.

“CEA Grenoble’s adoption of Twizy Way by Renault ties into Renault’s innovative mobility strategy. After the public service rolled out in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, it shows how this service can be tailored to business needs,” says Thierry Viadieu, Programme Director for Mobility Services and Cross-Line Equipment.

For CEA Grenoble, the Twizy Way service meshes with its continuing effort to craft an integrated and sustainable mobility strategy: “Over the last 10 years, we have established our mobility plan in waves introducing new technologies and uses. The site mobility master plan has always included innovative forms of transport and sought to encourage greater take-up of car sharing. We have close ties with Renault, so we are delighted to welcome this new Twizy fleet to round out the particularly varied mobility offering at our Grenoble facility,” said Jean Therme, CEA’s Director of Technological Research with responsibility for renewable energies.
