In a bid to help drivers overcome traffic delays, the AA has teamed up with TomTom to launch a brand new mobile app that helps road users in the UK avoid traffic delays on their daily commutes.
Reducing delays by just *5% would save road users £2.5 billion each year.
With nine British cities featuring in the top 60 list of Europe’s most congested cities**, the app has been launched to alert users to congestion on their planned routes, giving them the best chance to arrive at their destination on time. Subscribers receive text alerts directly to their mobile device, providing the opportunity to choose a different route and avoid a potentially frustrating journey.
Jeff Triner, Mobile Development Manager at the AA, commented: “The AA Roadwatch Pro app is designed to help avoid traffic delays. It is simple to use and creating a journey is easy; you simply set your start and end destination and the app will show you traffic on your route. If the route shown is not the way you want to go, you can select a different route by adding a via point. It’s a must-have app for regular commuters, as it helps shave journey times meaning commuters ultimately spend less time stuck behind the wheel in traffic jams.”

The app is available now and provides immediate access to live traffic and roadwork information displayed using detailed street-level maps. Individual text alerts can also be scheduled within the app to warn of potential delays to planned journeys.
The AA Roadwatch Pro traffic app powered by TomTom is available to download from iTunes today for a free 7-day trial period followed by an annual subscription of £1.99.
