Chevrolet achieves 4th consecutive year of market share growth in Europe

Chevrolet sold 194,650i cars in Western and Central Europeii in 2012, achieving the brand’s best ever share of the total vehicle market at 1.28 percent.

Chevrolet recorded share growth in seven of its top-ten markets in Western and Central Europe, compared to 2011. Five countries achieved record market shares in 2012: Austria (1.25% market share), Estonia (1.80%), France (1.06%), Germany (0.87%) and Poland (3.18%).

“Despite the challenging European market in 2012, we were able to grow our market share for the 4th consecutive year and maintained a higher share of sales to retail, compared to the industry,” said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.

“With the new Chevrolet Trax small SUV, the updated Spark and Captiva, and the all-new Corvette Stingray at dealerships this year, 2013 presents an exciting opportunity for further growth,” said Susan Docherty.

Chevrolet’s bestseller in Western and Central Europe was the Chevrolet Aveo small car, with 54,850 units sold. The Chevrolet Spark mini car sold 47,640 times for a segment share of 4 percent and the Chevrolet Cruze, now also available in the popular hatchback and wagon body styles, achieved sales of 40,550 with the four-door achieving a segment share of 7 percent. The Chevrolet Cruze is Chevrolet’s bestselling model worldwide having sold more than 1.9 million units sold since its launch in 2009.

The Chevrolet Captiva SUV and the Chevrolet Orlando family van (both seven-seat vehicles), too, continue to enjoy high demand, selling 23,620 and 23,270 times in 2012, respectively. The Orlando is now also available with the 1.4L turbo engine. Sales of the iconic Camaro sports car, segment leader in the U.S.A., reached 2,160 units in its first full year of sales in Europe.   In total Europeiii, Chevrolet sold a record 541,760 vehicles in 2012, also achieving a record market share of 2.89 percent.

“We are proud that Chevrolet was the number one import car brand in Russia in 2012 for the 6th year in a row, by selling 205,040 cars and SUVs, which is an increase of 31,560 vehicles, for a market share of 6.84 percent,” said James Bovenzi, President and Managing Director of GM Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States.

In Israel, which is part of Chevrolet Europe operations, Chevrolet sold 8,310iv cars and trucks in 2012.
