Electric bus and coach manufacturer, BYD France, is supporting key public transport authorities and operators across the Île-de-France region with a donation of 150,000 BYD-manufactured face-masks. The masks were delivered courtesy of a zero-emission 8.7-metre BYD eBus from the BYD production facility in Beauvais today – Wednesday 22 April – to the principal Île-de-France transport coordinator, IDF Mobilités.

As the fight against the coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19) continues, BYD France, the specialist producer of electric buses and coaches, has pledged to make further donations of masks to several other public transport authorities and transport operators in France. The initial handover of 150,000 masks, delivered this morning, was formally attended by Mr. Jean-Philippe Dugoin-Clément, Vice-president – Île-de-France region and IDF Mobilités in charge of ecology, sustainable development and planning, and Leevon Tian – Managing Director of BYD France.

In a record time, BYD has repurposed production at locations in China to become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of face-masks and other Personal Protection Equipment, with more than 20 million masks now produced daily. BYD face-masks are designed and manufactured to the prerequisite specifications to comply with French and European health certifications.

With its commitment to the French government and local authorities throughout the country, BYD France, as a major player in electric public transport, will continue to offer support with a number of donations during the current health emergency.

Leevon Tian, Managing Director of BYD France, said today, “In the face of this unprecedented crisis, a committed company like BYD has a duty not only to mobilise itself in response to the shortage of masks, but also to support those who work every day for the well-being of the community. For drivers, passengers and everyday road users, safety is our priority.”

Jean-Philippe Dugoin-Clément, Vice-President of IDF Mobilités, says, “This is a precious help for Ile-de-France Mobilités which reinforces the means deployed to secure transport.”

To thank for this donation, representatives of BYD Europe and BYD France were invited to the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition. Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, France Secretary of State for Transport, says, “BYD France’s donation to Ile-de-France Mobilités illustrates a spirit of solidarity and corporate commitment that goes beyond duty and we thank them for it. The sharing of experience, particularly with regard to the resumption of public transport services, is an important resource for us. Our collaboration and exchanges with the sole aim of protecting our fellow citizens must continue.”

BYD is firmly committed to the mass-production of hygiene products in the fight against the coronavirus, and to provide masks to those who need them most. The next donation from BYD France will take place in Beauvais where the production and assembly site for electric buses and coaches is located.

BYD France is a leading exponent in the drive towards sustainable public transport. The final assembly facility in Beauvais is based on a ‘made in Europe for Europe’ philosophy, with a range of products and services designed to meet the exacting operational requirements of European Public Transport Operators.
