For many people, smartphone and tablet applications – or apps for short – have become part of everyday life. Bosch currently offers around ten vehicle-related apps worldwide, ranging from a navigation aid to advice on replacement parts. Most of the apps are free: they can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store (for iOS products).

Fun2drive app: Imagine the following scenario: as someone drives along, their engine begins to stutter. This is where the free Bosch fun2drive app comes in. Using an adapter for the OBD on-board diagnostic interface, drivers can read out and decrypt an error code. If necessary, they can contact their nearest Bosch Car Service garage directly to schedule an appointment for maintenance or repairs. The app also allows drivers to call up key engine data such as fuel consumption and oil temperature in real time. Similarly, the app can gather travel data such as the route and average speed. For data transmission to the driver’s smartphone, a commercially available Bluetooth-enabled OBD II adapter is required. Fun2drive is currently available in Germany and India, and can be downloaded for Android devices from the Google Play Store.

Road sign recognition app: The MyDriveAssist app for iPhone affords drivers greater comfort and security, using the smartphone’s integrated camera to identify road signs as vehicles drive past. This means that it can recognize signs announcing the start and end of speed limits. The app also warns drivers if they exceed the speed limit. The MyDriveAssist cloud enables the speed limits gathered each day to be shared automatically with other drivers. Available in Germany only.

Always on the right track: The Bosch navigation app is a precise route-finding tool that draws on 20 years of navigation expertise gained in the automotive industry. Available for iOS devices, the app’s easy-to-read 3D maps and precise spoken instructions help drivers navigate to their destination comfortably and with a minimum of fuss. The Bosch navigation app calculates routes that are particularly economical – saving money and protecting the environment. It also warns drivers of dangerous bends ahead and, if desired, can automatically warn the driver’s friends of delays via Facebook and Twitter. The app is currently available for a variety of European countries and regions. German users of the app can benefit from a further highlight – integration with the “flinc” mobility portal. On request, subscribers to this mobile ridesharing service are alerted if there is someone nearby who possibly also wants to travel to the same destination. If the driver accepts the fare offered by his potential “customer,” the Bosch navigation system arranges a rendezvous, and subsequently guides them to their destination.

Windshield wiper app: The windshield wipers need to be changed, but the broad range of available sizes is overwhelming. The Bosch windshield wiper app helps customers find what they need quickly and easily. As soon as users have entered all the relevant vehicle data, they are presented with a selection of appropriate windshield wipers as well as the short reference number needed to direct them straight to the appropriate shelf at the shop. A video demonstrates how drivers can fit the wipers correctly to their vehicles. The app is available in several countries, for both Android and iOS devices.

Battery app: Choosing the right battery is not always easy, but the Bosch battery app can help. It enables commercial and end customers to make sure they get the right battery for their vehicle. The app also tells drivers whether they should pay a visit to the garage – which is generally the case if a start-stop system or battery management system is fitted to the vehicle. The free app is currently available for all countries on iPhone and iPad device platforms.

Car knowledge quiz: The Bosch car knowledge quiz allows car enthusiasts to put their knowledge to the test. Users are asked questions such as: “do you know how often a diesel fuel filter should be replaced?” They are presented with four possible answers to each question. The app is available globally, in German language only, for Android and iOS devices. And by the way, in Germany, diesel fuel filters are normally exchanged every 60,000 to 90,000 kilometers. For cars running on biodiesel, more frequent changes are recommended.

Racing app: The Bosch Car Service racing app is sure to entertain. The game is a combination of racing and simulation: drivers first repair or tune their vehicles in the garage before taking them out on one of twelve Carrera racetracks. The racecars are controlled via touchscreen and by tilting the smartphone or tablet. The app is available in all countries, for both Android and iOS devices.
