Automotive World has recently published a brand new report on General Motors’ product development and brand strategy.

GM’s future model plans and production outlook is a three-part report which provides full detail and analysis of its future model plans and production outlook, as well as information including:

  • GM is aiming to reduce the number of vehicle architectures used globally by nearly 50% over the decade to 2020. Similarly, it plans nearly to halve its engine platforms. Apart from the obvious scale economy benefits, the company hopes such streamlining will enable it to be more responsive to changing market tastes, and its production network to be more flexible.
  • Having terminated several under-performing US brands in recent years, GM is focusing on Chevrolet as its mass market brand for international expansion. The brand now has a presence in 140 countries, double the number from a decade ago, and sales in 2012 amounted to 4.96 million units, up from 3.6 million a decade earlier.
  • GM’s global output is expected to increase in each year of the forecast, rising from 9.5 million units in 2012 to 11.6 million by 2017.  The anticipated increase is broadly spread between the regions, with Asia expected to see the strongest growth in absolute terms followed by NAFTA.

This report examines GM’s future model plans and global passenger car production in the period to 2017.

Information presented includes:

  • General Motors future model plans by brand and model
  • General Motors passenger car production by brand and model (2008-2012)
  • General Motors passenger car production forecasts by brand and model (2013-2017)
