Alpine Electronics, Inc. today announced that it has become a member of the “Open Automotive Alliance™ (OAA)”, which is a global alliance of technology and auto industry leaders committed to bring the Android platform to cars starting in 2014.

Alpine understands smartphones and in-vehicle electronics connectivity creates additional values, and will meet expectations of Android phone users by becoming a member of OAA. Alpine’s products compatible with Android Auto™ will be introduced in 2015.

Directly operating a Smartphone while driving is regarded as a distraction for safe driving from an operational and visibility point of view. With Android Auto™ drivers will be able to enjoy apps and services from an Android phone safely and conveniently while driving.

“We are very pleased to become an OAA member. Not only will the Android Auto™ connectivity with our products increase customer value, but we also believe this will contribute to driver safety,” said Hirofumi Morioka, Managing Director, Engineering & Development, Alpine Electronics, Inc. “Alpine is excited about the potential of developing Android products for both the aftermarket and OEM products.
