Albert Mayer is to become plant director at the Audi site in Ingolstadt as of April 1, 2016. He will succeed to Fred Schulze, who will move to a newly created key position as series director for all top end SUV models. Mayer is currently head of production and plant planning at AUDI AG.

Audi Board of Management Member for Production Prof. Dr. Hubert Waltl: “With Albert Mayer, a quality‑conscious strategist will be the new plant director at our headquarters plant in Ingolstadt. As current head of planning at Audi, he is very familiar with the structures and vehicle projects at the Ingolstadt plant and will guide the plant to continued success in the future.”

Albert Mayer was born in 1954 in Neuburg an der Donau and graduated in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Audi in Ingolstadt in 1979. After numerous management positions in quality assurance, he was head of production planning at the Ingolstadt plant from 1997 until 2001. After that, he first became head of quality assurance in Ingolstadt and took the same position in Neckarsulm in 2003. In 2006, he moved to Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg as head of quality assurance for the small and compact product lines. As of 2012, he was in charge of quality assurance for all Volkswagen car plants. In 2014, Mayer returned to Ingolstadt and has since then been head of production and plant planning for AUDI AG.

Board of Management Member for Production Waltl praised the tremendous commitment of the current plant director: “In his short time as plant director in Ingolstadt, Fred Schulze has further developed the plant and successfully managed product starts and ramp‑ups together with his team. He is extremely goal and results oriented and always has his eye on the overall picture. He is therefore predestined for the cross‑functional key position of series director.” Schulze will take up his new position on April 1, 2016.

Fred Schulze, born in 1967 in Gardelegen, Saxony-Anhalt, graduated in production and welding technology. He started his career at AUDI AG in 1993 in Neckarsulm. As of 1994, he was in charge of quality assurance for the A8 car body; from 1998 onwards, he was responsible for the A2 car body before moving to Volkswagen in 2004. After being in charge of the Microbus project, he became head of body construction for the VW Bus and the Porsche Panamera. In 2010, he was appointed head of production at the Volkswagen plant in Emden, before being made plant director at the Audi site in Neckarsulm in 2012. Since October 2015, he has been plant director at the Ingolstadt site. In his new function, he will be responsible for the top‑end Q models.
