Will the 2020s be the decade of the electric bus?

Electric vehicle technology development still has a long way to go, but city mass transit already seems destined for a battery future. By Jack Hunsley

With the next decade promising significant advancements in electrification, many of today’s automotive players are already eagerly hunting for the most promising electric business cases. As battery costs and weight reduce, the equation for small, personal electric vehicles (EVs) is gaining momentum. For example, while the UK’s vehicle production sunk to its lowest point for more than a decade in 2019, figures from the UK automotive industry lobby group Society of Motor Manufacturing and Traders (SMMT) show a 34.7% increase in EV and hybrid production, with 192,304 units produced.
