Will solar-powered cars ever see the light of day?

Automotive World talks to Mike Tinskey about the Ford plug-in that doesn’t need a plug

One of the automotive highlights at the 2014 International CES was Ford’s ‘solar-powered car’. An advanced engineering study only at this stage, with no indication of a commercial launch, the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept is equipped with three SunPower-developed high-efficiency solar cells mounted on its roof. What makes this concept stand out is the fact that it combines solar power, vehicle electrification and - surprisingly - autonomous drive technology.
