Why a new maritime fuel rule will hit diesel in trucking

A 2020 regulation on shipping emissions could significantly influence the future of truck propulsion technology, writes Oliver Dixon

The trucking industry is well used to increasingly stringent emissions regulations impacting its cost of operation. Indeed, it could be argued quite reasonably that if there is a single defining characteristic that drives the commercial vehicle business, it is the regulation of emissions.

And, as of 1 January 2020, according to the IEA, another regulatory shift in the emissions landscape is likely to be exercising the collective industry mind. Only this time, it’s a regulation aimed not at trucks, but at ships.
