Waymo cements FCA partnership

The latest Chrysler Pacifica order suggests Waymo is very happy with its decision to move away from the Firefly pods and embrace mass production vehicles for its autonomous drive testing. By Megan Lampinen

Relations between Waymo and FCA remain as strong as ever, despite Sergio Marchionne's muted enthusiasm on the near-term potential of autonomous vehicles (AVs). Waymo has just placed an order for 'thousands' of more Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans. The partnership has been gradually gaining pace. It kicked off with a modest contract for 100 Pacificas in 2016, followed by another 500 last year. The latest order is for an unspecified volume in the thousands.
