Telematics is moving forward. Over the past few months, the subject has constantly been in the news, whether it is about the further delays to eCall in Europe or the rise in telematics ‘black box’ insurance. On the infotainment front, cars are becoming increasingly connected, and the demand for smartphone capabilities within the vehicle is continuing to grow. In-vehicle connectivity is now well established in the market, and CAGR forecasts put the penetration rate from 21% up to 41% over the next few years. And by 2018, the number of in-vehicle apps in use is expected to reach 269 million, according to a new report by Juniper Research. This figure represents more than a 500% increase on 2013’s figure.
