On 12 July 2025, US President Donald Trump told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a letter that imports from the bloc will face a 30% tariff if no deal is reached by 1 August. It is not immediately clear whether this raises or is separate from the 27.5% previously advised for automotive products.
