For a long time, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) – the latter commonly referred to as mixed reality (MR) - was a concept confined to the realms of science fiction. For many people, flicking through images of far-flung places on a View-Master or gazing into a kaleidoscope was the closest they might get to immersing themselves in another world. Today however, a revolution is under way.
