Japanese safety supplier Takata has been hit with another blow in the form of a US$200m fine – the largest civil penalty in the history of the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The government organisation issued two orders to the company after it violated the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and failed to accurately report problems with its airbags. Evidence suggests that the supplier is guilty of providing NHTSA with “selective, incomplete or inaccurate data” since 2009.
