Still sceptical: Marchionne dismisses flood of EV and AV commitments as ‘irrational’

FCA's CEO suggests that the flood of electric and autonomous vehicle (AV) announcements coming out of NAIAS and CES reflects "the most irrational side" of companies. By Megan Lampinen

Electric and automated vehicle (AV) developments dominated many displays at this year's CES and North American International Auto Show (NAIS) but one player has remained noticeably quiet - FCA. Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne has previously voiced scepticism on both of these fronts, which he suggests remain long-term developments and offer little in the way of near-term revenue opportunities. Addressing media at this year's Detroit show, Marchionne suggested that much of the investment and announcements to emerge from the event were irrational responses to industry and media pressure.
