Steps taken to bring carbon fibre to the mass volume segment

Ford and DowAksa take concrete steps to bring carbon fibre reinforced composites to the high-volume automotive market

At the beginning of this year, Ford and DowAksa, a joint venture between Dow and Aksa to manufacture and commercialise carbon fibre and derivatives, decided to accelerate joint research to develop high-volume manufacturing techniques for automotive-grade carbon fibre. Their strategy to achieve this was to become a part of the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI), created by the US government.
