Start-up innovation could spur shopping spree in 2018

OEMs and suppliers are acquiring or investing in mobility start-ups, and this year could see an outright shopping spree. By Megan Lampinen

2018 could prove the year of mobility start-ups as larger companies pump hefty investment into these potential hotbeds of technological development.

Nick Gill, Chairman of Global Automotive Sector  at Capgemini, pegged this as his number one prediction for 2018. "Car manufacturers will go on a start-up shopping spree," he wrote in Automotive World's Guide to the automotive world in 2018. "In the middle of the biggest transformation in transport since the invention of the steam engine, future survival and success for OEMs will depend on investment decisions made now, including the year to come."
