The downbeat mood at the 2014 Moscow International Autosalon sharply contrasts with the optimism of 2012 and 2013. Unlike in 2012, when Russia registered record sales of 2.935 million vehicles, and in 2013, when 2.9 million sales made it the second largest market in Europe, after Germany, the sector operators now expect sales to peg at just 2.4 - 2.5 million in 2014 in the best-case scenario.
