Renault recall stems from RDE, not deception

Government and company officials are keen to highlight that the recall is not linked to the use of defeat devices, but rather a gap between official figures and real world results. By Megan Lampinen

Renault has confirmed the recall of a small batch of diesel Captur models to recalibrate the engine control unit, but emphasised that this is not related to any use of defeat device software. French officials are currently investigating the OEM, along with other manufacturers, to ensure local companies are playing by the rules. As part of its investigations, Renault's headquarters and technical centres in Lardy and Guyancourt were recently raided by the France's Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF).
