New mobility services no threat to car dealerships, says NADA

As the automotive industry takes steps towards autonomous cars and new mobility solutions, questions are being asked about the role of car dealerships. Celeste Dooley speaks to Jonathan Collegio of the US National Automobile Dealers Association

Attitudes towards vehicle ownership are changing, particularly in the wake of new mobility solutions such as ride-sharing and ride-hailing. Discussion has been under way for some time now over the evolution of automotive retail, with consumer preference for online buying raising doubts about the long-term viability of selling vehicles in car dealerships.

Add to this the growing discussion over usership versus ownership, and the notion that private car sales will decline as new mobility solutions such as ride-sharing and ride-hailing reach their full potential, and there are some valid questions to be asked about the role of car dealership in the automotive industry of the future.
